Overall

I had the 1st gen iPhone, so was keen to get my hands on the 3G version as soon as it was launched. So, I queued for 3 hours and was lucky enough to get one in the 16gb version. Was it worth the wait? I would say yes, it does everything the first one did and more. In fairness though, the 2.0 software update was the best part about the phone, but this was available to 1st iPhone users anyway. So no huge gain here, other than that some of the new apps require the GPS to perform to their optimum. Initially I thought the AGPS was a bit of a gimmick, but already I've used it on a number of occasions, only last night I was in a bar in the City of London not knowing which street I was in, the iPhone told me where I was an showed me where my friends were, so I could give them accurate directions without even putting my pint down! The 3G is also a good improvement over edge, I would say it's only marginally slower than the wifi when you have a good connection. The design is great, looks nicely updated and feels better in your hand than the 1st gen. You've also got the flush earphones so better compatibility with other earphones. The battery life is good. If you don't use the phone heavily, you will get 2 days. Only slight disappointment was no dock, so you will have to go and spend £19 on one of those. The camera is still the same, but this doesn't bother me too much. A flash would be nice though. Overall, I can't really fault it. Sometimes it hangs a bit when your typing texts, but generally it's great and a good enough improvement over the first generation to warrant going out and buying one.
